Thursday 8th February

Everything around Kbly was quiet this morning, owing to Long Cecil having put the Boer 100 pounder out of gear yesterday, but they seem to have soon put her to rights again, for they (the Boers) commenced bombarding the own again about 4 o'clock, keeping it up until about 7 o'clock, doing considerable damage to property.   Cuthbert's Boot Store completely destroyed by fire, a shell dropping on the building and bursting inside.   Blacklaws & store B[?] also were a little damaged, Middlebrook New Building was hit and considerably damaged.
